Review of Explorers (1985) by Jonathan B — 26 Feb 2013

I really have a soft heart for this film, I like the main character Ben played by Ethan Hawke because he reminds me so much of me growing up. Unfortunatly the ending of this film turns it into a silly crazy film, but all in all its a really great escapist film.

Director Joe Dante better known for his film Gremlins paints a heartfelt picture of teenage boys who build a spaceship after Ben played by Ethan Hawke dreams about a circuit board. The late great River Phoenix made his film debut as geeky scientist kid Wolfgang.

This film is known to be Joe Dantes favourite and most close to his heart. With many fun moments unfortunately the ending lets this film down and the film was a major bomb at the cinema. I remember seeing this film as a 12 year old kid in 1985 I remember enjoying it!
