The story is about sci-fi geek Ben Crandall played by a young Ethan Hawke who wishes to travel to outer space. Along with his computer pal Wolfgang Muller played by the late River Phoenix (may he R.I.P.
) and best buddy Darren Woods played by Jason Presson (who went nowhere), Ben gets his wish and they all fly into outer space where they meet an extra terrestrial played by Robert Picardo. I absolutely love this movie and I'm glad it has gained a cult following.
Our young Ethan Hawke, River Phoenix and Jason Presson are excellent in their roles and its a shame that only Ethan made it to a successful career. The music is epic and it sets the mood for the movie every time.
It's no E.T. or The Goonies but this underrated adventure, science-fiction drama is worth everything: time, expectations, thoughts, hype and so on. It bring back the memories of kids who used to build giant objects and pretend it was something else due to their extreme creativity.
Nowadays, people would moan at kids saying "That's the past, grow up now." and I'm saying NO! If I let my past die, then my whole future dies as well because that's what shapes me into the person I am now.
Explorers gets a 9.6/10.
