Review of Explorers (1985) by Jon C — 16 Mar 2015
In the style of 'E.T.' and 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' director Joe Dante explores the outer reaches of the galaxy and the inner workings of the dream scape.
Aliens establish contact with three friends and they respond by building their own spaceship to hopefully gain some answers about the universe.
The 1st hour like most flicks is all about the set-up and it is not until the middle where it starts getting more whimsical.
Thank goodness at least one small conflict is resolved and all these boys have to worry about is reaching their destination to meet non-Eartheans.
It's got that Speilberg-esque vibe to it and a young child's attitude and the effects are damn good.
The very young and upcoming Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix string the film together making the science of exploration fun.
