Review of Explorers (1985) by Jackie M — 31 Dec 2006

I really loved this movie as a kid and still have a fondess for it. It's the story of a group of kids (one of whom is the achetypal science nerd that always appears in 80's kids movies and the another is the everyman) who end up going into space and meeting some aliens.

It takes a while to get this point in the film and that's the real problem with it. You want them to get into space and quick but it's still a nice little movie. I recently found out that if you have a look at the headlines on a newspaper someone buys at one point you can see the headline "Kingston Falls Riot Unexplained" or something like that.

..it's a reference to Gremlins (also by Joe Dante) and that is the town that gets taken over by Gremlins. Cool kids film.
