Review of Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed (2008) by Amol V — 23 May 2008
The extra half star is for the guts that Ben Stein had to make this movie. First of all, who would be interested in a documentary and secondly, he's running against the whole scientific community which most everyone looks up to.
The references to the Third Reich and Stein's "I'm just figuring things out" attitude makes the film more propaganda than documentary (then of course what documentary doesn't reek of bias?).
However, how can you stage Stein making Dawkins look utterly incoherent and kindergarden-ish on his origin theories/philosophies? Kudos to Stein for stumping the high and mighty Dawkins. That was an amazing feat in itself.
(I add another half star for making a movie that my friends and I had to actually think and discuss about.).
