Review of Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed (2008) by James W — 01 Nov 2008
This is not a *primarily* a movie defending Intelligent Design, although it was fascinating when Stein got Richard Dawkins to advocate it to explain life on Earth. This is a movie about freedom of Speech and Inquiry, not the specific "holes" in Darwinism (although he does discuss the bewildering complexity of the most simple cells).
Some complain that he compares Dawinism to Nazism, but it is actually the logical direction to go considering his discussion of the purges of skeptics of Darwinism. And he actually *does* succeed in linking, directly, the Eugenics movement and the Nazi philosophy with the writings of Darwin.
Stein also does an excellent job of presenting the war over ID as essentially a war about ideas and worldview, and he does a good job of showing that outcome of the ID controversy is not trivial.
