Review of Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed (2008) by Bruno B — 13 Aug 2010

This 'documentary' is the story of Ben Stein who tries to clear up the controversy surrounding the intelligent-design-discussion. He discovers a Berlin wall between the establishment and the intelligent design movement. Gradually he starts to doubt his Darwinism and starts seeing the dangers of this theory.

The 'documentary' is especially sneaky because the investigator Ben Stein feigns objectivity. He pretends to be a Darwinist, but he clearly isn't.

If this 'documentary' had been up front with it's intentions I would probably have rated it about 50-60%, but this is just one step to far. The pure fiction of Mr Stein losing his confidence in Darwinism is just ridiculous. The conclusion is clearly made at the beginning where in the first frames Darwinists are depicted as communists.

Various other manipulations are quite obvious. The most obvious one is the link between the Nazi's and Darwinism. It is basically implied that if you subscribe to the theory of evolution by Darwin that you will become a Nazi and that you will start killing the mentally impaired.

Another major problem I have is that the creationists are never mentioned by Mr Stein. The only people that mention creationists are the Darwinists that are being interviewed. Mr Stein obviously doesn't want to upset the largest part of his supporters.

This 'documentary' had some potential to educate people about the controversy and show why this is such a difficult conflict. But it is clear that the only goal of this 'documentary' is to try to convert Darwinists to creationism. This is done by:

-reasoning (poking holes in Darwinism),.

-bribing (promising an eternal life in heaven),.

-threatening (if you are wrong God will punish you),.

-misleading (Stein pretends to be a Darwinist).

This is just another piece in propaganda in a discussion that is made by slandering the opponent. This is done by both sides and neither side seems ready to try to resolve the conflict. Stay far away from this one, as it will be boring for creationists, frustrating for Darwinists and misleading for the rest.
