Review of Expecting Mary (2010) by Rick R — 10 Sep 2010
I loved this film! It has a cast that audiences will enjoy seeing, and a story that provides good clean entertainment that makes you feel good. The point of this film is not to take life too seriously, to appreciate others in your life and that family can be where you choose to find it.
Expecting Mary is a surprisingly funny and refreshing story about a pregnant runaway teen heading to LA to see her father. Along the way she meets a group of people who live in a trailer park where she learns the true meaning of family. Expecting Mary is masterfully written and directed by Dan Gordon, who presents a range of well developed characters who each have their own transformation in some way throughout the story. A solid cast makes each character very likable and pulls you in early on. Hilarious characters include the trailer park owner, the airport baggage handler and the Elvis impersonator. Lead actors Linda Gray, Cloris Leachman, Della Reese, and Cybill Shepherd provide some truly entertaining performances. Linda Gray's role as Darnella provides an uplifting view of life with lessons we can all learn from about living in the moment. Expecting Mary is a genuinely funny fee-good film with broad appeal. It's an independent film that deserves to "make it big".
