Review of Exorcist: The Beginning (2004) by Ashley J — 02 Dec 2007
Loathe it all you want, but it's a fool who continues to compare every sequel to the original in the face of changing audience expectations and what 'film' actually is.
Harlin's version is dumb, sure, but fast paced, nasty and surreal (at times) and it has elements that Dominion sorely lacked (and vice versa). I recently watched both films back to back and both stand up well against each other. And Skarsgard giving a different performance as Merrin to that delivered in Dominion is a fascinating comparison.
