Review of Exorcist: The Beginning (2004) by Monsieur R — 19 Aug 2010
For 2004:
Yes it is NOT a good as the 1973 film.
The original movie was alot more focused.
This one tries to take advantage of the series and what it stood for.
There really cant be too much put into a prequel.
I do like though that the film never lets up with the scares and blood.
An unusual combination of thrills and gross-outs.
It's very unsettling at best.
Renny Harlin takes a much more different approach than with the previous 'Exorcist' films.
We see how Merrin becomes who he is stuggling to re-establish his faith while battling the evil that awaits to show its true form.
