Review of Exorcist: The Beginning (2004) by Theodore J — 16 Jun 2007
A movie that dared to challenge the power of the origina, and failed miserably. The movie itself is short, a mere 90-minutes or so. And it is mostly loud and overly violent. Whereas the first film relied on a disturbing atmosphere and quiet menace throughout, this one relies on typical cliches and over-the-top violence (including a scene of a man cutting up his body with a shard of glass with occult symbols, then slitting his own throat).
The acting seems somewhat cliched as well, and the film just seems to be one loud mess. The kind of thing you get when a studio steps in and takes over a project that they deem unsatisfactory.
