Review of Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977) by Jonathan P — 29 Oct 2012
Exorcist II- The Heretic is a joke right? I had read reviews bashing how bad it was. But we are talking about the sequel to the scariest movie ever made! The sequel to the only movie to bring me unadulterated terror.
The sequel to the movie that even as a grown man made me curl up to my wife with a night light on and shiver all while singing happy go lucky songs in my head just so I could fall asleep without seeing the face of pure evil appear in my mind.
So with the Exorcist II being the sequel to THAT movie, I sat down to watch it with a knot in my stomach and the fear of being scared out of my mind once again only seconds away from taking over my nerves.
For more than an hour and a half I sat scared to death waiting for the scare that would push me over the edge.....and it never came. I watched as Pazuzu the demon of LOCUSTS tried to outwit the father to laughable results.
I watched the great James Earl Jones humiliate himself in this mess of a movie. I watched as Richard Burton and Louise Fletcher gave two of the most lackluster and dull performances ever captured on film.
I watched Linda Blair the young girl who will forever scare me when her personage from the original movie appears in my mind make a mockery of her character. Exorcist II- The Heretic is just plain bad no two ways about it.
The only thing it has working in its favor is the illusion that it will be as scary as the original.
