A retelling of the Biblical story of Moses (here played by Christian Bale), a Hebrew brought up in an Egyptian court before being exiled and later returning to lead his people - the Hebrew slaves - to freedom, but only after it takes ten plagues to convince Pharaoh to let them go.

Bale, however, is no substitute for Charlton Heston, lacking the majesty or imposing character of Charlton Heston in 'The Ten Commandments', with the parting of the Red Sea proving (to me) to be a bit of a let-down.
