Review of Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014) by James W — 01 May 2016
Exodus is yet another Hollywood movie borrowing from the Bible to make their next blockbuster. If you want a more faithful adaptation then watch The Ten Commandments or The Prince of Egypt.
Sure the Ten Commandments had a Hollywood cast but it's a better film since yes they were better at making movies back then. This film just feels like Americans in Egypt with every actor sticking out like a sore thumb. Especially Christian Bale, Sigourney Weaver, Aaron Paul and John Turturro.
Just like most epic films of this day and age; it at least has good visuals and is well shot. But like with Robin Hood "I know it's not a Bible story lol"; the Ten Commandments story just gave Ridley Scott the excuse to make another Gladiator like film. Here though he feels more like Stephen Sommers making a Mummy film.
