Review of Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014) by Theodore B — 06 Feb 2015
An incredible disappointment. Scattered, poorly written, and seemingly edited by children, 'Gods and Kings' attempts to apply 'global warming' rationale to the biblical plagues, assigns 'freedom fighting terrorist' persona to the enslaved Israelites and attributes Moses' relationship with God to a combination of PTSD and TBI.
There is no majesty to any of the characters in this movie. Worse, Moses is reduced to a mad warlord who eschews his 'all too familiar' staff for a sword. The storyline pits Moses against the 'god character' until the very end, casting Moses more as a revolutionary insurgent than an obedient messenger of god.
Ultimately, there is no saving grace to this failure: not even at dollar theatre prices.
