Review of Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010) by Brandon R — 14 Mar 2011
I loved every second of this doc. The first half was an enlightening look at a graffiti sub-culture of which I had no prior knowledge. The second half was even betterâ"an examination of the hypocrisy and shallowness of the modern art world.
And yet, while the footage and interviews seemed so raw and real, I couldnâ(TM)t help but note the director. Heâ(TM)s a subversive street artist in his own right. Is the film even genuine, or just another mirror to be held up to society? The protagonist seems too Magoo to be true.
5 stars in either case.
