Review of Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010) by Paul E — 27 Mar 2011
Deservedly nominated for a Best Documentary Oscar this year, this Banksy film documents in great detail the Street/Pop Art Scene, which has exploded in recent years.
Its a documentary which initially started out as one thing â" to document the notoriously elusive Banksy and his work and ended up becoming a more detailed look at the whole movement with the eccentric amateur French film maker becoming the surprise star of the show.
Anyone with even the remotest interest in art or modern media simply MUST watch this documentary, and even those without an interest in art at all will enjoy learning about this underground movement which started out as FREE art for everyone to enjoy has somehow become a multi-million dollar business where its the art lovers themselves who are essentially the but of the joke by literally mugging themselves to pay out fortunes to own a Banksy or Mr. Brainwash (MBW).
It opens up a lot to discus on the topic and just like Catfish, there is that question in your mind â" Is it real or is it fake?
Well worth your time.
7/10.
