Review of Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010) by Nacho S — 24 Sep 2011
Its a little hard to understand why a man would mortgage his home, his business and basically put his whole life and family in jeopardy during one of the biggest recessions to ever hit our capitalist society, for the sake of few hundred screen prints. This street art exhibition had money and lots of it before it even began. So with that in mind take this nice wee film with a pinch of salt. Bansky in my mind is clearly at the helm of this wonderful satirical look at how bonkers and moronic the world of art has become. Banksy is in full control of everything that transpires outlining the stupidity of the art world and the idiots that fuel its wanton disregard of actual artistic licence. Ostentatious morons leading morons in a futile attempt to create a belief or idea that is so bohemian that if you follow that idea you will become a member of that elite bohemian understanding of art.
I love this film its fantastic and it really does prove with a lot of money and a few well known peoples quotes can make anyone believe absolutely anything. Which asks the question, who's bullshitting and who's telling the truth. MBW you worship the moon!
Fantastic, watch you will enjoy everything about it!
