Review of Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010) by Paul P — 17 Dec 2011
A freakishly fascinating documentary. Its such an intimate way it documents the street art scene(or movement) Following guys like Banksy and Shepard Fairey doing what they do is so fun and exciting. But where it gets really interesting is when documentarian Thierry Guetta stops filming and lets the camera get flipped onto him.
What transpires after that brings up more interesting questions about art and its place in the mainstream than anything i've ever read, seen or talked about. Is the film a hoax? Is Mr. Brainwash a Banksy and Guetta creation? If that's true it adds to the significance of the film.
