Review of Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010) by Gerry R — 25 Jan 2013
I think I was more impressed by what Banksy and some other artists in this film, (including the maybe-he-is-maybe-he-isn't artist "Mr. Brainwash") than by the film itself, and certainly the mystery of whether the film is a hoax doesn't interest me much.
It's hard to believe Mr. B could get that good, or pull off a big show like that, starting from nothing. But what I'm supposed to think about that, I don't know. Certainly the movie plays it straight.
All the 'hoax' stuff comes from people talking about this film, not the film itself. And the film itself tells a pretty cool, if dubious, tale, and has great street art all through it. I wish the shitheads who spray paint my city could see what talented people do, and put down their cans for good.
