Review of Exiled (2006) by Stein G — 27 Mar 2008
On the surface it's a shoot 'em up gangster flick, but it's definitely an homage to westerns. The shootouts provide some Peckinpahesque blood spatter and the sureshot harmonica player is straight from ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST.
There's also a gold heist, some rowdy campfire fun, and a shootout in a hotel (with a resident hooker). If that's not enough, how about the jangling baby's anklet replacing a cowboy's spurs.
It's a little slow, but there are some decent action scenes mixed in the themes of fate and brotherhood. All this and the movie, according to Johnny To in the special features, was unscripted.
