Review of Exeter (2015) by Jeff P — 22 Aug 2015
This movie suprised me a lot. I expected a cheap, poorly directed and acted horror movie filled with cliches. Instead, I got a movie which was directed really well, acted good and with a lot of fun. The movie sometimes feels like Evil Dead.
There are some similiar plot points, which I will not spoil. The story is the usual. There's a haunted asylum at which bunch of teens party and spend the night in and at the morning when almost everybody is gone, 5 kids decide to make one of them levitate.
Which, of course, goes wrong and now they got a demon possessing them one by one and making them kill each other. There isn't much to the story, but the overall movie was very scary and even had a couple of funny scenes.
The movie looks great. It's directed really well and it doesn't feel like a low-budget flick at all! The acting is pretty good, though the characters are very cliched and you don't really care about them.
There is quite a lot of gore and violence, and it all looks great! There wasn't really a time where I was like "That looks really fake". The soundtrack is your usual horror soundtrack with lots of intense music.
All in all, a great horror movie with great visual effects, good acting, an interesting, but underwhelming, story, some funny humour and genuine scares! I would recommend seeing this if you like horrors like Evil Dead.
