Review of Executive Decision (1996) by Joe H — 08 Aug 2011
I haven't seen this movie in 7-8 years but I thought I remembered liking it so I ordered the DVD off of Amazon for like $4 and watched it last night. This movie is pure classic 90's action thriller awesomeness! Definitely on my list of Top Favorite 90's Action Films.
A great assortment of actors, especially Kurt Russell and David Suchet, who deliver their dialogue superbly. This is also one of the few movies that, even though I had seen it before, was still making my palms sweat during certain tense sequences. This movie has all the best elements that a great action movie needs: action (duh), suspense, a little bit of comedy, great ensemble of actors, and--those of you who know me closely knew it was coming--a great score :).
Of course, Jerry Goldsmith delivers a magnificent action and tense filled score that really accentuates the movie's story tremendously. The movie's main theme in itself is absolutely awesome. After listening to it in its fullness two years ago, this soundtrack jumped to the top of my Favorite Goldsmith Scores list along with "Mulan", "The Ghost and the Darkness", "Congo", and "Timeline (Rejected Score)".
Anyhoo, a GREAT action flick that I highly recommend!
