Review of Excision (2012) by Tyler E — 25 Nov 2012
To begin with, I was not sure if this was going to be "my sort of movie", or just another off the wall piece of gore that you often find when looking for a good movie on Netflix, but I genuinely enjoyed the film.
The flashes between what appeared to be Pauline's (Annalynne McCord) delusions but also her praying - to who knows what - was a bit insightful because you were able to see who she was from all angles, something that is often difficult to pull off in under two hours.
The casting of Pauline's mother, Phyllis, as Traci Lords was a very interesting choice because of her public persona and the extreme nature of the character. I felt awful for the father, Bob (Roger Bart), to have every opinion and almost every word you say that is not in agreement shot down or challenged until it's just not worth fighting anymore.
I wanted him to stand up for himself, for his children, for something - you'll just have to see what happens but it disappointed me a bit. There were a few familiar faces which added just a little something to the film.
John Waters as the William, the church therapist; Malcolm McDowell as Mr. Cooper, the English teacher; and Matthew Gray Gubler as Mr. Claybaugh, the Science teacher. The extremes that Pauline starts to go in both her behavior and I believe her psychosis as well as the film progresses, it is both interesting and disturbing.
I do not want to ruin the ending, but it is definitely worth watching. You just can't be afraid of a little blood.
