Review of Excalibur (1981) by Deneb K — 13 Mar 2009
The worst adaptation of the King Arthur legend I have ever seen, and certainly ever hope to see. Horribly mangled in plot and pacing, with ridiculous and over-powering music. The fight choreography, although perhaps true to life, was dull and uncomfortable to watch.
The acting was atrocious - Patrick Stewart and Liam Neeson must cringe at the memory of their roles in this. The plot lines of Merlin and Morgan were just too bizarre, making Arthur, Guinevere, and Lancelot background players and forcing plot changes which made no sense.
Saying this is based on Malory is an insult.
