Review of Excalibur (1981) by 3568 C — 29 Jul 2013
A big, bold and serious attempt at Arthurian legend by John Boorman, viewing this today it is severely let down by some truly awful acting performances that seem to come straight out of Monty Python. It's also very choppily edited, which is possibly more a giveaway that Boorman planned an even longer epic.
However, things improve notably in the second half of the film when some of the best known Arthurian legends start happening, such as Lancelot's betrayal and the surreal search for the Grail.
