Review of Excalibur (1981) by James K — 07 Jul 2013
The first minutes of this movie spelled disaster for me. Yet another woefully stupid and cheesy 80s fantasy film, I thought. And while the whole movie is indeed cheesy, it actually got fairly engrossing as the film progressed, much to my surprise.
While a lot of the sequences come across as a bit silly, I found it to be an excellent adaptation of the Arthurian legend, though I clearly read a different version, as a lot of details were different.
In the end this is probably one of the biggest surprises I've encountered in my history as a watcher of films.
