Review of Exam (2009) by Markus L — 21 Apr 2011
Sooooo many movies have used this premise, especially the last 10 years with at least 4 movies I can think of offhand. Eight (or so) people locked in a room and they need to figure out how to win/answer a question/get out the room/etc.
The thing about this import from the UK is that it works better than the rest. All of the other movies tried to out-think itself and make things so complicated that, while entertaining, they become a mess.
What's before you in Exam is actually presented to the "contestants" in such a simple manner that they are the ones that over-think it instead of the writers of the movie over-thinking it and screwing up the plot.
There are a few pieces of throw-away information that are needless, but overall it is a solid psychological thriller that will have you screaming "plot holes" at the end until you actually go back and remember the situation as it was presented in the beginning.
Sometimes all you have to do is follow directions...
