Review of Ex Machina (2015) by Tiff K — 29 May 2016
Amazing and thought provoking film! Special effects were deserving of that Oscar. Flesh and machine blended so beautifully. The performances of the actors and the musical score gave such a powerful impact and complemented the intelligence and the creepiness of the film. I just have some misgivings with the script but I did feel very discombobulated after watching it.
The film begs to ask its audience what would it be like for an AI to pass the Turing test and how these machines give meaning to our philosophy and ethics. It's a really intelligent and beautifully shot film. Great directorial debut for Alex Garland of Sunshine fame (gosh do I love that film!).
Best AI film so far with regards to exploration of the future of AI and whether we're so close to reaching that particular stage when we can no longer distinguish man and machine.
