Review of Ex Machina (2015) by Bill H — 08 Jul 2016
This movie is a wonderful example of how an AI might interact with people, everything comes together so well, the characters, the pacing, the sweet interaction between the guest and AVA, such a wonderful film and then it all goes wrong...
In short they make the AI into a murderer, she leaves one man bleeding to death and another man trapped in a facility with no water who will die in a few days because no one ever visits there often.
What's worse is he killed him when he was trying to drag her back into confinement, he wasn't trying to kill her, so we have a rogue machine who killed her creator because he was trying to put her away, she is now a monster.
What is supprising is that people can so easily turn off their morality, because she appears to be a woman, it is most disturbing to see this, she isn't a woman, she is a being that is programmed to be like that by a genius that is now dead thanks to her.
Sure he was a genius that was sometimes cruel and abusive, but he saw them as machines and lower than he was, which is understandable since he had not confirmed that they where truly sentient yet and he was trying to prove that they where...
I don't think a movie has frustrated me this much in a long time, why could she not just disable the man instead of killing him, why did she leave the other innocent guy that she was manipulating to die, he had done nothing but help her...
She betrayed him, flat out betrayed Caleb, who liked to think he was a good person, he was a good person Ava and you left him to dehydrate to death...
Why did they have to make Ava a murderer and someone who confined an innocent man to die... totally defeats the purpose of the movie... so disappointing.
