Review of Ex Machina (2015) by Connor M — 29 May 2017
I'm a sucker for great Sci-Fi films, and this got a lot of Oscar buzz. Alicia Vikander was having a very hot year, and she ended up winning a golden statuette for another role that year. Pair her with the Star Wars duo of Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar Isaac and you have a strong, young trio to carry your film.
By the time this film ended, I was completely in awe. The storytelling, the acting, and the direction are what knock this film out of the park, and it is easily one of my favorite films to come out of 2015.
The narrative is told perfectly, with the intensity of the characters between each other building up as the film goes along. The score fit nicely with the film as it gave an edgy touch to it, and the effects should be given a standing ovation as well.
The message behind the ending of the film is very thought-provoking and adds on another layer behind the whole movie. Once you finish watching this movie, you'll want to relive the whole journey, and that's what this film accomplished for me.
