Review of Ex Machina (2015) by Ginak — 04 May 2015
A rather cerebral and claustrophobic film, but I enjoyed it and I consider this a “don’t miss” for science fiction buffs like myself. Don’t expect Blade Runner because there is very little action, and I also wondered if Oscar Isaac will ever get a breakthrough role or will he be like Michael Fassbaender, giving excellent performances but not in quite the right vehicle.
I found the beginning a bit slow, but the end was riveting and the surprises promised in the reviews I read did not disappoint. Certainly the best performance, and the most difficult, was from Alicia Vikander whom I found totally convincing.
