Review of Ex Machina (2015) by Spillyd — 10 May 2015
I have no idea how anyone would not enjoy this movie. Beautiful and scary, thought provoking in a way that makes you question your own sense of identity. No fluff, no explosions, just a good story directed perfectly using CG in the best way.
So far the negative reviews can be boiled down to (boring because it only has 3 main characters) (boring because there have been other movies with robots) (boring because they didn't understand it) (boring because I knew how it was going to end).
I call BS on the last one, there were several ways it could have gone and enough misdirections to keep me guessing. Not sure what people don't understand, it's fairly straight forward but does have some ideas that everyone may not be familiar with.
Yes there have been other similar movies (Her and Bladerunner are the ones that come to mind immediately) but they are not the same. That's like saying they should have stopped making westerns after John Wayne because it was already done.
And I have no idea why a movie needs a certain number of characters. That's completely foreign to me so I have no idea how to address it.
