Review of Ex Machina (2015) by K Nife C — 29 Mar 2016
They say this is a fantasy/mystery but that is not correct. This is modern sci-fi. Domnhall Gleeson is flown out to reclusive Oscar Isaac's billion-dollar compound to give a cute swedish android woman the Turing test (if you know what I mean).
Ideas of the pro/antagonist change constantly and the movie is stylistically and visually stimulating enough that you forget it's moving at a snail's pace. Oscar Isaac, who some might recognize as Poe Dammerung in Star Wars VII, is one of the best actors of the past two years and he seems to be getting bigger and better roles as of late.
Coincidentally, Gleeson is also in Star Wars as the pissy baby fascist leader. He's also in The Revenant, and he's ok too, I guess. We will just see.
