Review of Evocateur: The Morton Downey Jr. Movie (2013) by Paul J — 10 Aug 2015
Evocateur is engaging, but I just hate biographical documentaries that try to make us sympathize with bad people. I don't care what anyone says Morton Downey Jr. was one big joke. He spoke of the lack of morality that had been befalling America, yet he was a huge part of that lack of morality. Then the movie talks about his show and how it sparked the reality television that we see today, like that's a good thing.
Morton Downey Jr. peddled garbage for the entertainment industry. He, as a political talk show host, was a major part of the WWE style bullshit that news organizations take part in today. It's all the democrats fault or it's all the republicans fault, when it's really both. Morton Downey said he talked of the truth. No he didn't and if this documentary would have called out his program for the trash it was, I would have liked it more. But it only tried to make us think that Morton Downey Jr. was some groundbreaking entertainment personality. Breaking the ground for more trash like Maury and Springer, and reality television in general.
