Review of Evita (2009) by Mec R — 21 Mar 2008
A limited film, but one which works remarkably well. Madonna really can sing, as if we didn't know. While I found it difficult to sympathize with the scheming wife of a dictator, Madonna brought amazing pathos to the part.
Jonathan Pryce seemed to me an actor excessively underused. The standout was Banderas, who made the film worth watching. As history, absolutely ridiculous. As a musical, there are better. But still packs some serious power.
