Review of Evita (2009) by Hashim Ali C — 12 Jul 2008
I really wanted to see the movie after Brooke White from American Idol sung a song from Evita. I brought the movie having no idea what so ever about the story of this movie.
Evita tells the story of Eva Peron, Argentina's first lady, who was also an illegitimate child. The movie starts with the death of Evita and people of Argentina mourning her death. Antonio Banderas plays "Che" who is the narrator of the movie and tells us the story of Eva Peron's life.
Madonna as Eva Peron was fantastic. She made the character of Eva her own and not for one second throughout the movie did I feel that I was looking at the queen of Pop "Madonna". I loved nearly all the songs she performed. She made her dying extremely emotional, with the equally fabulous song "You must love me". I think that this is probably Madonna's best movie that I have seen.
Antonio Banderas was really very good. I loved all the songs and he was hilarious and amazing as the narrator Che.
For me the best bit in the movie was the song where Madonna and Antonio are singing and dancing. in an empty hall.
"Evita" contains killer cinematography, costumes and production design. The direction is superb.
Evita ends up making an extremely boring biography seem interesting and enjoyable. The two hours fly away as one song follows the next until the climax. I recommend this movie to all Andrew Llyod Webber's fans.
