Review of Evil Things (2009) by Thomas F — 08 Jun 2013
I thought that the first 45 minutes of this movie were quite good. Interesting characters/actors, good comraderie between them, and the atmosphere was a bit tense. But then something happened that immediately ruined the entire film.
If the footage we are watching is supposed to be raw crime scene evidence, why in the world would there be a friggin' cinematic music score?! So many found footage filmmakers make the terrible decision to add a backing score, completely oblivious to the fact that it WILL ruin any chance of credibility and believability of the entire movie, no matter how good the character development, pacing, action or atmosphere.
Which, in this film's case, is a lost cause anyway. Because incidentally, at around the same time the music kicks in, the acting, story, action and atmosphere completely crumble apart and fall into the toilet, flushing itself down the pipes, never to be seen again.
The "horror" scenes were aggrivating, like nails on a chalkboard, and left me desperately longing for another scene of the gang hanging out in the cabin, talking about nothing. And the ending was muddled and answered no questions, and.
.and...well, who really cares? Definitely not me. Another epic fail in the found footage rack.
