Review of Evil Dead (2013) by Jason P — 23 Oct 2013
The original Evil Dead kickstarted Sam Raimi's film career and made Bruce Campbell an icon among the geeks of the world. Here we have a remake, but don't put the red flags up yet. This one is produced by none other than Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell.
Evil Dead follows an addicts and her friends as they get away for a while to help her recover, only to stumble a mysterious book that causes hell on earth for them. First off, this film is NOT for the squeamish.
The film is packed solid, and then some, with over the top gore and mutilation. However, the cool thing is that it's done practically. Acting wise, well, I'm not sure if it's fair to judge the acting because 90% of the film is comprised of looks of terror and demonic possesions.
However, they play those parts well. Overall, Evil Dead isn't a straight disaster like most remakes of classics. Oh, and the little something after the credits is worth the wait.
