Review of Evil Dead (2013) by Josh W — 12 Nov 2013

This new interpretation of Evil Dead takes things back to their roots and tries to give the truly horrific vision they tried to make the first time. For me anyway, it was a resounding success, and an almost perfect excursion in horror.

Aside from the question of general human cruelty (the tree rape scene in particular is downright unpleasant in this version) there's nothing this film really does wrong, it's just a question of whether or not you like what it's trying to do.

Yes, it explores many old horror clichés, but it pushes them to the point of horrific perfection, creating a definitive horror film.
