Review of Evil Dead (2013) by Yasminandbell . — 25 Feb 2014
I had through the roof expectations for the anticipated remake of Evil Dead, and I wasn't the least bit disappointed. The casting was perfect, the script was great, and the directing was awe-inspiring. But one of the things that I was most impressed about was the practical effects. I could only remember one scene that used CGI, and it looked really good. In my opinion, the most impressive thing though was that it was actually a GOOD REMAKE. All the big Hollywood horror remakes that have been coming out lately (Halloween, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street) have just been god awful. My only complaint is that it's not as scary as it should've been. But, there were some rather disturbing and spooky qualities to it, such as Mia's possessed face, and some of the voices she speaks in while she talks are just terrifying. Overall, Evil Dead is a great remake and directorial debut for Fede Alvarez, and I can't wait for a sequel to come.
