Review of Evil Dead (2013) by Brandon W — 02 Dec 2014
I am a big fan of the original and also think that it's one of the scariest movies I ever seen. So with Evil Dead coming out, I was very excited to see this. I knew it wasn't going to have the humor like the original and just be a scary gorefest film, but I think after this, it probably would've been a little better if there was humor in it.
There was some unintentional funny moments in it however, but that's due to some of the stupid moments in it that's funny. With that said, I thought that Evil Dead is a fun movie. The practical effects are the best part of the film and looks so real, that it'll make you turn away from the movie because you can just feel the pain from them.
The plot is relatively the same as the original, but still kept me interested in it, although the pacing of it is slow. At the first seven minutes, it gets you a bit excited and the pacing is fast enough for it, when it gets to the main title, that's when the pacing just basically takes a backseat for the characters that are honestly not that well thought up to know who they are and just end up a bit forgettable.
The character that I know is the junkie girl. The acting is decent at best for what they got, Jane Avey did a great job of acting very creepy. Although I wish it could've been scarier, there was some moments where the scares were effective, but it's very lacking of them.
Evil Dead will never be as good, or scary, as the original, but it's a good remake that is rightfully faithfully to the original, while coming up a different thing here and there in the movie without feeling disrespectful to it.
