Review of Evil Aliens (2006) by A.d. V — 30 Oct 2007
Now, to be fair, me & Mike were expecting it to be a bit rubbish. So, from that starting point, I have to say we were both very pleasantly surprised. The opening scene had us thinking "Oh dear, what kind of sick crap are we about to watch?", but as the film progressed, it became clear that the whole thing is extremely tongue in cheek.
It's pretty low budget, and it kind of prides itself in it. The evil aliens in question look remarkably like regular humans in silver suits, and this all adds to the charm. For a horror flick, there is a remarkable amount of silliness and slapstick and it works an absolute treat.
There were plenty of belly laughs to be heard in my front room that evening that's for sure. It perhaps should be pointed out that it does have some pretty sick imagery, so it's not one for the kids, but I don't watch a lot of gore, and it was nothing that I couldn't handle (the initial alien abduction scene is about as bad as it gets).
The acting probably isnâ??t the best youâ??re ever likely to see, itâ??s never going to be heralded as an absolute classic of itâ??s genre, but if you donâ??t mind a little gore and fancy a jolly good laugh, I would recommend this.
Itâ??s not as well known, but I suspect itâ??s actually better than Shaun of the Dead. And anything with Emily Booth in is surely a good idea, right?
