Review of Everything Must Go (2011) by Leong C — 29 Sep 2011
Everything Must Go is something special in Will Ferrels career, and for having a dramatic role, he did an amazing job.
This story is about Nick Halsey who had a pretty terrible day, his wife had left his stuff in his front yard and he cant get in his house, and loses his job, also brings his alcolhism back and drinks a lot, and he has to live his life for a few days in his front yard figuring out what went wrong when also trying to get rid of all of his stuff.
This is a dramedy, my problem with these types of films is that the genres never really even out, its either really dark or sugar coated, this film is an exception to those, the good pacing and acting, if this film hasn't been for Will Ferrell, it wouldn't have been as good, it's nice to see a really subtle character this time and people may question it, but for being a more serious character then something like "Talladega Nights" or "Step-Brothers" its quite a nice step to see him settle down and he really is a great dramedy actor, Stranger Than Fiction is one of those Dramedies that really work and it's because of Will Ferrell that makes these films work so well. The characters are very enjoyable to watch and have nice writing to them and a lot of good humor, and it never really falls into cliches which I love about movies! Characters choices fall into their consequences which I loved.
The pacing is a little slow I could say, and it's really depressing and a sense of hopelessness in this film but gets a great message in the end.
A fantastic movie, everything just works so well that it's something I could watch and learn from it over and over again, go see it.
9/10.
