I think you'd have to have a certain mood for this kind of entertainment. I hated his character, and his negative state dragged along til more than 3/4ths of the film--and it wasn't at all funny.
Maybe I was the wife in this film-- I never wanted to see any of it. Maybe the story was better in paper than on Will Ferrell.
