Review of Everything Must Go (2011) by Jonathan M — 11 Mar 2012
An interesting vehicle with Will Ferrell at the helm and producing a very engaging movie. Kind of a much more subtle "Leaving Las Vegas" with not as much of the intense drama but using a similar theme of loss in life and alcoholism.
Ferrell does a very good job in a subdued role (for him at least) as a man who is at a crossroads with his failing work life and marriage. The relationship his character develops with a neighborhood kid is wonderful.
The script is pretty good and moves the film along well. The other supporting roles, particularly Rebecca Hall and Michael Pena, really add a lot to the humorous and dramatic moments in Ferrell's character's life.
My only complaint would be the ending is a bit strange, to say the least. Somewhat abrupt and not quite the closure I was looking for or expecting with the way the film was progressing up to that point.
Still definitely worth the watch simply for Ferrell's performance.
