Sometimes we have to hit rock bottom before we realize we must change the way we live. This is not the comedic silliness of most Will Ferrell movies, and it certainly isn't a dramedy. This is a rather serious look at an alcoholic who has officially hit his all time low, and he is trying to figure out where to go from that point. Sometimes, it can be too serious, but as someone who has grown up with alcoholism in the family, it is almost refreshing to see an honest look the emotional turmoil the ensues because of it. Although, this is told from the perspective of an alcoholic, it is still all the more uplifting in the end. In fact there is no happy ending, it is full of hope, however.

Will Ferrell has surprised me by showing that he really can act in dramatic roles. He is likable, despite making awful decisions. But there is an honestly in his performance. Don't expect a comedy. This isn't a comedy.
