When it comes to Will Ferrell, my fandom seems to be all over the map. At times, he can offer a fantastic funny performance and at others, it borders on obnoxious. In Everything Must Go, Ferrell offers neither and brings to the screen a fantastic, serious portrayal of an alcoholic who has lost everything and lives on his front lawn with his possessions.

This film offers Ferrell the opportunity to show his dramatic chops and he does so in a subtle style that is outstanding. I really liked this film. Despite a slow start, the film picks up speed, but doesn't ever get into a pacing that moves along with its characters.

This is a heartfelt drama that showcases the talents of Ferrell much better than the story. By the end of the film, I couldn't help but feel robbed for my time, yet satisfied to see Ferrell do more than just slapstick comedy. It's worth a viewing, but not for everyone. If you can accept the pacing, you'll enjoy this film for what it is, which is to say, the story of a man who's alcoholism has left him with nothing and his attempt to find redemption.
