Review of Everything Is Illuminated (2005) by Ursula R — 26 Sep 2009
I watched this movie mainly because it is directed by Liev Schreiber, who happens to be a great actor so I expected great things from this film. I wasn't disappointed at all. This is a kind of quirky film about a Jewish man who collects memories of his family as he goes on a journey to find the woman who saved his grandfather from the Nazis.
This man is played by Elijah Wood, who makes this very eccentric character seem like he could actually be real. The storyline is one that was impossible for me to predict, which is a sign of a very unique plot, and I always love a movie that is able to catch me off guard.
Another thing that I liked about this movie was the soundtrack. It contains traditional eastern European instrumental tunes and mainstream Ukrainian songs, all of which fit the movie perfectly. This is a film that, although relatively unknown, should still be seen.
