Review of Everything Is Illuminated (2005) by Aaron F — 02 Jun 2009
Quirky, funny, and quite touching. Never overly grim or outlandishly ridiculous. It has a good balance of emotion, and the director utilizes all the different themes in such a way that prevents it from becoming too dark or depressing.
Elijah Wood gives a wonderful performance, but the real standout is Eugene Hutz as Alex. He has some great lines that will have you laughing out loud. There's a great dynamic between Alex and his grandfather, too, that adds another layer to the story.
I've been wanting to see this movie for years and I'm glad I finally got my hands on it.
